Josh could be described as a “hyphenate,” but is primarily a writer and filmmaker. He wrote and directed the multi award-winning short film Cordial Kill, and is currently at work on his first feature film, titled There Are Five of Me.

He has published one novel and a handful of short stories. He also wrote some music articles for Vinyl Me, Please. He used to publish under the pen name Doctor Gaines but no longer does.

He is the host of the podcast TEXTURE.

Josh was born in Lincoln NE, grew up in Albuquerque NM and now lives in Denver CO. He was once in the band Abraham the Poor, dropped out of a film program in college, won two poetry slams, and drew Harry Potter-themed comics for a while.

He enjoys the work of Stephen King, Chuck Palahniuk, John Steinbeck, Bret Easton Ellis, Cormac McCarthy, Paul Thomas Anderson, Stanley Kubrick and Lee Hardcastle. He loves The Alan Parsons Project, Huey Lewis & The News and King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard. Anne Lamott, Richard Rohr and Thomas Merton are his teachers.
